about us
Eklavya Tribal & Rural Development Foundation is a Non Governmental Organization (NGO) working in remote tribal area of Gadchiroli district. It is well known that Gadchiroli is the most backward district of Maharashtra. It is Naxal affected & tribal district. Most of the geographical area of Gadchiroli district is very remote & covered with dense forest. Most of the habitants are poor tribal. In Gadchiroli district, Etapalli is one of the most backward tahsil. Madiya tribe, which is identified as Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG), is a major habitant of it. In Etapalli tahsil, almost all villages are tribal villages, situated in very remote areas & surrounded by dense forest. Many villages have no proper roads to approach there. Most of the villages have hundred percent tribal populations. These tribal people are too poor to meet their everyday needs. They can’t approach to taluka or district place for medical treatment & afford medical expenditure. Due to lack of medical facilities, they can’t get proper treatment in medical emergency. Hence, as a social responsibility, we regularly arrange free health checkup camps in these remote tribal villages. In these camps, free health check-up is done & medicine is provided free of cost. Very soon, it is proposed to establish a hospital in this remote tribal area.
Malnutrition among tribal children is one of the major health problems in Gadchiroli. Lack of medical service in remote area, extreme poverty, superstitions, etc. are the causes of malnutrition. We provide supplementary nutritional diet & necessary medicine to malnourished children in health camps. In the beginning of school session every year, we distribute stationary, uniform, school bags, etc. to poor students to meet their educational needs. During Covid-19 lockdown, we distributed grain & groceries to poor families of these tribal villages. At present, we are working in 12 tribal villages in very remote area of Gadchiroli district. On Sunday, we arrange free health checkup camps in these remote tribal villages. In this camp, health checkup of patients is done free & medicine is provided them free of cost.
This program of free health checkup camps started in the year 2018 & is continued till today. Expenditure of this activity is meet’s through public donations.
